RESIDENTS are being asked for their views on Wyre Forest District Council’s budget proposals.

An online survey called Your money, Your Choice is available on the homepage of the council’s website, wyreforestdc.gov.uk.

The authority is seeking opinions on council tax levels and proposals for cost-saving, as it tries to make up a £4 million shortfall over the next three years.

The survey also includes a section to find out views on whether the council offers value for money.

The cabinet’s budget proposals include freezing members’ allowances and staff pay, while eight jobs are expected to be lost over the next financial year.

Spending on parks and green spaces will be reduced, saving £47,000, and £35,000 will be saved by suspending all “non-essential” council staff training.

The cabinet is proposing to raise council tax by 2.5 pre cent, which would mean an average rise of £4.82 for the district council’s share of the bill.

The majority of council tax payers’ money goes to bodies including Worcestershire County Council, the police and the fire service.

The revenue budget is used by the council for day-to-day running of services such as waste and recycling collections, food and health and safety inspections, planning and building control and parks and play areas.

A decision on the final budget will be made by the full council at a meeting on February 24.

Nathan Desmond, cabinet member for resources, said: “We have put forward a wide range of measures to tackle the difficult financial position we find ourselves in.

“The online survey is a quick and easy way for residents to let us know their views on our plans.”

Anyone without access to a computer can fill in the questionnaire online or get a printed copy at one of the Worcestershire Hub customer service centres at Kidderminster Town Hall or Stourport Civic Centre.

The closing date for responses is February 12.
