  • "So Stourport are griping like some overgrown schoolboys (or should it be schoolgirls) because the new cemetery has not been named containing the word Stourport in it.
Well now, as a 68 year old Kidderminster inhabitant who will sometime soon be using the facilities of the aformentioned burial site, I'm not going to get very upset about what it's called as long as it doesn't have the word Kidderminster in it's title. I feel quite convinced that my immediate family will be only too pleased that they do not have to go to Stourbridge or Worcester to my funeral. This I feel will be the main concern of the population of Wyre Forest when they have a bereavement.
Gary Talbot should really have a long think about how silly he and other Stourport councilors are making themselves appear.
I am having a little chuckle at Stourport councillors and their main priorities. I am very pleased if they get their prestigeous title of "Stourport-on-Severn - Dead Centre of Wyre Forest."
I just hope and prey that Kidderminster councillors do not feel the need to join in with this 'Squabble-in-the-pla
yground,' and get on with something which is of a little more importance."

Cemetery name plea

THE new Wyre Forest cemetery and crematorium should be named after Stourport, according to the town’s Deputy Mayor.

Stourport Town Council carried a motion put forward by Independent Community and Health Concern town councillor Gary Talbot during a meeting, saying it should have Stourport in the name, not Wyre Forest.

Wyre Forest District Council decided the new site would be named Wyre Forest Cemetery and Crematorium.

The £4.2 million development, which is due for completion at the end of the year, is located on the A451, Minster Road, between Stourport and Kidderminster.

Mr Talbot said: “It is in Stourport so I think it should be named after Stourport. The town deserves more recognition and respect. We get hit time and time again. If it was in Kidderminster, I don’t think it would be named after Wyre Forest.”

Conservative district councillor Tracey Onslow, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: “As the cemetery and crematorium is for the whole of the Wyre Forest area and the wider community, the name that was decided upon accurately reflects the position.”

The site has been developed by West Midlands company Dignity operating on behalf of the district council, with the new building designed by Kidderminster architects Howl Associates.

The name of the cemetery will now be discussed again by Wyre Forest district council.
