Plan for 98 new homes in Stourport on agenda

A PLAN for 98 new homes in Stourport is set to be given the go ahead.

Redrow Homes Midlands submitted a planning application for the development at the former Morgan Advanced Ceramics site on Bewdley Road.

The proposals will be decided at a meeting of Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee on Tuesday at Duke House, Kidderminster.

The application is recommended for delegated approval subject to there being “no objection” from the Highway Authority.

The development will be made up of 98 two, three, four and five bedroom houses with private gardens and car parking.

Planning officer Paul Round said: “The styles of dwellings provide an eclectic mix of house types that work well together providing a range of designs and styles.”

He said the plans would make a high quality and attractive residential development.

North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration said however the proposals had no through routes, reducing connectivity and ease of movement around the site.

The site had been reserved by Redrow after an outline application for 150 homes was approved by the district council in 2007.

Do we need more houses?, which most round here could not afford, we need decent employment,in which people work and spend their money locally.Stourport is becoming a ghost town, just a commuting town for Birmingham, nothing to offer but only the river for the day trippers

I agree curryman, house prices are still way too high and even the banks think so too, 25% deposits etc. I believe homes which are built now are simply done to protect the Vested Interests i.e. Estate Agents, Construction companies, Surveyors etc. Such homes will most likely be partially subsidised by the taxpayer via government backed FTB rip off schemes and/or (when they don't sell) fully purchased by the taxpayer in the name of social housing! Either way, end game is for the FULLY INFLATED boom time price to be entered into the Land Registry thus keeping prices artificially inflated! We must not forget that house prices are high due to banks such as HBOS, RBS and Northern Rock dishing out Liars Loans to people during the boom time.

" We must not forget that house prices are high due to banks"

Not so. They are high due to everyone getting massive loans to buy them upto the crash. They are high due to Maggie's right to buy scheme and then not building anymore social housing. They are high because there are not enough houses to go around.

Of course we need more houses. hundreds of thousands of them. PErfectly good site if you ask me. IF they get planning then good luck to them.

House prices will fall when loans for them are easier to get and the supply begins to match the demand. It's basic economics folks and if we had enough housing then prices would have fallen much further due to the global finainacial choas we a re enduring. The only reason I can see to refuse is to keep my house price up as there are just not enough. even in Stourport.

Besides, these new developments, this one, Churchfields on vale road, waters edge, the impending James Brindley Wharf et al brings in new people, businesses and essential cash to the town in many forms. And yes, the coucnil will get more money from more taxable properties. A good thing right now I would suggest.

So, build away. Bridge st too.

I'd like to object to an influx of settled people into the area. Some of these people are untidy and don't pay their tax, even worse many of them will read the Daily Mail. We need other towns to take on their fare share.
