THE head of Hartlebury Women’s Institute (WI) is thought to be the only president of the organisation competing in this year’s London Marathon.

Pat Jewkes will be among the thousands of runners who will be taking part in the 26.2 mile race on Sunday.

It will be the third marathon for The 59-year-old retired teacher who completed the Edinburgh event in 2006 and 2010.

The keen cyclist, who was a headteacher of Queen Elizabeth High School, in Bromyard, has been training for the gruelling event on the A449 between Hartlebury and along the canal towpath between Stourport and Wolverley.

She will be raising cash for The Flying Doctor charity and hopes to finish the race in about five hours.

People can sponsor Ms Jewkes by contacting her on 01299 251362.
