Royal celebrations to raise funds
1:50pm Friday 1st June 2012 in Local
A STOURPORT opticians will be getting into the patriotic spirit by holding just over a week of fundraising events to coincide with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Specsavers, in High Street, will be holding various activities until June 9 to fundraise for the River Foundation - a charity which raises funds for research and supports families who have lost children to sudden infant death syndrome.
To kick start the celebrations the store will be entering the Stourport Town Centre Forum window display competition. Throughout the week staff will be sporting red, white and blue outfits and offering free specs MOTs in return for donations.
Children can enter a design a plate competition, with the chance to win chocolates. Entries must be received by Monday and the winner will be notified by Tuesday. Tomorrow and Saturday next week the store will also be offering face painting – with donations going to the charity.
The River Foundation is a charity that is particularly close to the staff at Specsavers in Stourport as a friend of the team, Alex Waddell, sadly lost her son to sudden infant death syndrome last year. "The team are all looking forward to getting into the party spirit for the Jubilee," said Tim Reeves, store director.
"It also seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to continue to raise funds for the River Foundation and we hope the local community support us with our efforts.’ For more information or to make a donation to the River Foundation, visit the store or call 01299 877999 or log onto specsavers.co.uk/stourportonsevern
