Fun and games in Wyre Forest parks
8:00am Friday 3rd August 2012 in Local
FUN and games can be had in Wyre Forest with activities aimed at keeping youngsters out of trouble during the summer holidays.
Police officers have been putting on events as part of West Mercia Police 's Respect campaign aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour over the holiday period.
The activities include a coffee in the park event at St George’s Park, in Kidderminster - run in partnership with Vestia, Pathways and Friends of St George's Park - every Friday until August 17, from 6pm until 8pm.
Local policing officer, PC Andy Forbes, said: “We hope residents will take the opportunity to come down and make the most of the park and to enjoy some fun and chat with friends.
"If anyone has any issues they would like to discuss we will also be on hand to offer advice."
Vanessa Halford, youth inclusion community support officer has been working with Wyre Forest District Council to advise on where and what activities could be held during the holidays.
She said: "There are some particular areas across Wyre Forest where in the past there have been no activities for youngsters and this has lead to them getting into trouble.
"We hope that with the variety of games, arts, sports and craft activities on offer we can help to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour and get everyone having some family fun during the summer break."
Activities on offer include tennis, cycling, badminton, dog olympics, survival skills, ranger activities and crafts, including painting and jewellery making.
CSO Halford added: "We hope to get a good turn out and hope everyone has a great time."
More information about what activities are on offer can be found at wyreforestdc.gov.uk/summer or an facebook.com/wyreforestyouth. Anyone who likes the page will get regular updates of what is on in the area.
