AN urgent appeal has been issued by the RSPCA after a horse with head injuries was abandoned in a field in Kidderminster.
The female horse was found on Sunday at a farm in Ismere at 4.30am, struggling to stand and soaking wet.
It collapsed within hours of being found and could not be saved by vets due to severe nervous system damage from a gash on its head.
RSPCA inspector Rachel Hayward said: “I am completely shocked that someone could be so callous and cowardly to dump a sick horse in a field to die.
“To bundle a large animal that is clearly sick into a transporter and abandon it in a field during the night defies belief.
“It was clear that the horse required urgent veterinary attention and it could be that her owner wasn’t willing to put their hand in their pocket to pay for vet treatment which was their legal responsibility as owner of the animal.”
The horse was thought to be no more than two years old and was a piebald cob.
Ms Hayward added: “It is imperative that we find out who owned this horse. I would appeal to anyone who recognises her, in particular horse owners in the area, to please get in touch if they know anything.”
Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
