EARLY years children at a Kidderminster school are enjoying the fruits of their labour after spending the summer growing fruit, vegetables and flowers in the school garden.

So far this year, nursery class pupils from the Knoll School, Manor Avenue, have successfully grown apples, rasberries, peas, beans, carrots, potatoes and herbs which were then cooked by school staff and served as part of the children’s lunch.

School spokeswoman Marlene Humphreys said the children had watched the seeds germinate and plants grow with “awe and wonderment” and ate the fruits with “sheer joy and a sense of achievement”.
