Still time to enter team in Shuttle Races this weekend
12:31pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Local
RUNNERS are limbering up for the annual Shuttle Races this Sunday.
A field of about 200 runners is expected to take part in the traditional 10k race and 4k fun run at Stourport Sports Club at Kingsway.
And the organisers from Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club are looking for more teams to take part.
Spokesman Richard Warder said: “We would like more team entries from pubs, clubs, gyms and football and rugby clubs.
“People need to get themselves into teams of four and can be a mix of men and women if they can’t get a full team of all men or all women.
“There are prizes for the winning teams and runners can just come along and enter on the day.”
The popular event is in its 11th year and has already raised thousands of pounds for Wyre Forest good causes.
Kidderminster’s Kemp Hospice will again be the main beneficiary this year.
The 10km race – which incorporates the Worcestershire Championship – gets under way at 11am. The fun run starts 15 minutes earlier and takes place on the cycle track adjacent to the athletics track.
The 10km race is open to anyone over the age of 15. Those entering the fun run can be any age but under-10s need to be accompanied by an adult.
The winners of the men’s and women’s sections of the 10k race will each receive trophies and there are cash prizes for the first three home in the men’s and women’s sections.
There are team prizes – for men’s teams comprising four members and women’s teams of three and for the first time there is a special £50 prize for anyone who beats the 10k course record.
The fun run carries prizes for the winners of the men’s and women's sections.
Runners can use the entry coupon in this week's print edition of The Shuttle or can simply enter on the day of the races.
