AN aspiring Stourbridge film-maker and media journalist is doubly celebrating this week after being awarded access to a prestigious film festival programme and joining forces with the country’s biggest movie magazine to help promote his work.

Kyle Pedley, 25, was thrilled to learn he had been granted full press access to the BFI London Film Festival, an annual event which this year will see the likes of directors such as Tim Burton attending to premiere their latest releases.

“I was pretty overwhelmed,” Kyle explained. “I’d already been told that major press, papers and even TV were having to be turned down because of how important and popular the event was, so I set my expectations pretty low. When I got the email to say I’d been accredited I was absolutely thrilled”.

Kyle, who graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in 2009, currently produces film, TV, theatre and videogame reviews and video content for his own media organisation, (A)musings Media, and the Stourbridge News and its sister papers at Kidderminster, Dudley, Halesowen, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich.

Since starting his review work in April, he has already been invited to press screenings and premiere’s of major movie releases including Prometheus, Disney’s Brave and Avengers Assemble.

“Getting to go to the London Film Festival is just the icing on the cake of what’s been an amazing year so far, and really unexpected. I’ve always been really passionate about film and the media so to be getting to go to events such as these and have my work acknowledged and appreciated by the people in charge of such things is really humbling,” he continued.

He was given further cause to celebrate this week when the publishers of Empire, the UK’s leading movie publication, agreed to support him with a free giveaway to celebrate his recent successes.

Everyone in the UK who follows his page on facebook (www.facebook.com/amusingsmedia) by next Wednesday can share a post to claim a free copy of the magazine.

“Having the people behind Empire supporting me with this giveaway was again something I hoped for but never expected to actually happen”, he said.

“It’s still very early days with my writing and (A)musings as a business, but hopefully it shows to anybody out there who has an idea for a project or website but are a bit dismayed by the idea of kickstarting it, never be put off by asking for help and just be hard-working and tenacious.”

With the London Film Festival in full swing from October 10-21, and currently in the stages of working with designers producing his (A)musings website, it’s going to be a busy month for Kyle.

He is asking anybody who may be interested in getting involved to email him at Kyle@amusings.co.uk “Writers, editors, web designers, presenters – there’s already a small team in place but we’re always looking for new talent to come on board and help us out.”

Kyle’s London Film Festival coverage on this website will start in the blog section this week.
