A LOYALTY card scheme launched to boost Stourport town centre has had an “amazing response”.
More than 2,000 customers and 61 businesses have signed up to Sold on Stourport since its introduction on Monday, September 24.
It is free to sign up to the scheme which offers customers deals such as two-for-ones, discounts and freebies as well as a monthly information email. Application forms and cards are available at participating businesses.
During Sold on Stourport’s first five days members of Stourport Town Centre Forum and Wyre Forest District Council town centre manager Peter Michael set up a stall outside Co-Op in Lombard Street and managed to sign up 1,000 members.
“It was amazing,” said forum management group member Derek Fradgley. “Many people came to find us because they had seen the articles in The Shuttle and decided they would support the scheme.
“We have 61 businesses signed up and supporting the scheme and more are joining all the time. All the supporting retailers are now able to issue cards directly to their customers.
“It has been a great success and Sold on Stourport window stickers are everywhere.”
Mr Michael said the district council was looking at including extra incentives as part of the scheme but wanted to keep them under wraps for the moment.
The project was launched with the 2013 opening of Tesco in mind. It is feared the supermarket could take customers away from town centre shops although the company argues it will bring more people into Stourport.
