MORE than 100 runners hit the track for the annual Shuttle Races on Sunday, raising money for a Wyre Forest good cause in the process.

The 10k event, hosted by Kidderminster and Stourport AC and starting and finishing on the all-weather track at Stourport Sports Club at Kingsway, was won by Dave Mansbridge, of Telford AC.

After taking the lead in the early stages, he gradually built up an advantage of about a minute and triumphed in 36 mins 13 secs.

His nearest challengers were Ben Carrington and Stuart Hawkes who flew the flag for local club Amazing Feet RC.

The pair fought out a keen battle but Carrington eventually got the upper hand to clinch second place in a time of 37 minutes 13 seconds, just 17 seconds ahead of his team-mate.

There was home success in the ladies race when Sian Powell took first place for the host club in a time of 42-06.

Runner-up was Zoe Yeomans, of Stourbridge AC, in 49-43 and third was unattached runner Joanne Williams in 50-11.

Other notable times were recorded by Russell Cadwallader (unattached) who was the first over-40 male runner home in 37-52, while Louise Norgrove (unattached) clocked 46-19 as the first over-45 woman competitor.

Fraizer Salmon won the 4k fun run, beating off the challenge of runner-up Thomas Anderson and third-placed Megan Cadwallader.

The event is in its 11th year and a donation from proceeds will go to Kemp Hospice, which provides palliative care for people with life-threatening illness and their families.
