Clee future remains unclear

Kidderminster Shuttle: District council chairman Stephen Clee. District council chairman Stephen Clee.

WYRE Forest Conservatives are remaining tight-lipped about reports the district council’s chairman Stephen Clee has been expelled from the party.

Wyre Forest Conservative Association has decided not to release any information over its decision which was believed to have been made last month.

It is understood that a vote was taken by an executive committee of the association to expel Mr Clee, who also represents Bewdley and Arley on the authority, on September 21.

Mr Clee had 14 days to appeal against the decision but it is not known whether he exercised his right.

The appeal period is now up but the local party told The Shuttle today that it would not be releasing any further information.

Mr Clee is also a Worcestershire county councillor, representing Chaddesley Corbett.

Words such as 'open' and 'transparent' are not in the vocabulary of Wyre Forest Tories.

They're desperate to avoid this thing entering the public domain. What are they afraid of?

As Stephen Clee was democratically elected to serve as a Conservative representitive, then the public deserve to know the real reason as to why the Conservatives have decided to eject him at this stage. I cannot see how Councillor Clee can continue in any role in the public domain whilst this story is clouded in mystery.

For the Wyre Forest Conservatives to release a statement that it would not be releasing any further information on this matter just fuels public speculation - and quite right too !

Why isn't Mr Clee making a statement. Should he not be telling his 'supporters what is going on. I understand he is usually quite vocal.

I didn't realise that it was a full moon last night.

Wyre Forest Tories clearly need someone to handle press enquiries. Perhaps drbeat should do the job?

So is he still representing the Bewdley and Arley and Chaddesley Corbett electorate as a Conservative Party member or not?

I mean, sure it's not as if they can chose to get rid of him mid-term (a major deficiency in our electoral process), but I'm sure they'd like to know.

What a perfect diversion for the Tories, all the opposition speculating on Clee's departure instead of concentrating on important issues.
They just have to sit back and laugh in the knowledge that Clee is obviously a threat to those that are almost wetting themselves in anticipation of the next morsel that is thrown to them.

Is this a NEWSPAPER or not... come on please Messrs Joyce and MacMillan -find out the truth and grow a pair and report it, that is why we buy your newspaper. Clee was a Conservative elected chairman of the council, a conservative District Councillor for bewdley and a Conservative County Councillor for Chaddesley. WE DESERVE THE TRUTH. And does his alleged dishonesty and mallicous practice make him an unfit person to be clerk of a parish council?

"Has he ever properly ? "
should be the question rather than
"Is he still"

@Respectable - If I were a nasty person I could say that the fact you pose the question that way shows he is/was representing the electorate as a typical Conservative Party member.

But as we all know I'm not a nasty person so I won't.

You won't find any posts from any Conservative activist on this thread because they have been told by their political masters to keep schtum about Councillor Clee and what he may (or may not have) done.

But I did get a response from John 'Mr Transparent' Campion when I asked him about Stephen Clee's status as a Tory councillor on another discussion thread on this site.

His response?

"If Mr Watson checks the WFDC and WCC websites he will find a complete list of who is a member of which party on the respective bodies."

I hope this answers your question FlipC.

Still listed as a Conservative so either

a) He was never expelled;
b) He has appealed within the time limit; or
c) They haven't updated the sites.

The Wyre Forest Conservative Association website has him listed as the Conservative County Councillor for Chaddesley since 1997.

WRONG! Harry Purcell was elected in 1997. Clee was elected at a by-election in December 1998.

It also states that he has represented Bewdley, Arley, Shatterford and Pound Green for the Tories since 1992.

WRONG AGAIN! The good people of Wribbehall & Arley had the good sense to dump him in 1996. He had to wait for two years before he could join his good friend Louise Edginton *cough* as a District Councillor for Bewdley.
