Mencap hosting planning for future event in Kidderminster
10:10am Wednesday 17th October 2012 in Local
LEARNING disability charity Mencap is hosting a Planning for the Future event at Kidderminster Town Hall next month.
The event, on Thursday, November 8, will provide free information on how families and carers can ensure someone with a learning disability is taken care of when they are no longer around, by making a suitable will or setting up a trust.
It runs from 12.30pm until 2.30pm. Places can be booked by contacting Gina Collins on 020 7696 6925, emailing willsandtrusts@mencap.org.uk or visiting mencap.org.uk/pffe.
A local legal professional, with experience of drafting wills and trusts for the benefit of people with a learning disability, will be speaking at the event. They will also be available to answer any questions regarding family wills.
Aarti Gupta, Mencap’s in-house wills and trusts solicitor, said: “Parents often worry about how their loved one will manage their financial affairs when they are no longer around.
“They may be concerned that inheriting a large amount of money may leave them in a vulnerable position and they may also want to ensure that their loved one is able to benefit from their full inheritance.
“When you have a loved one with a learning disability, it is important to have measures in place to ensure a secure financial future for your family. This seminar is an ideal place to get started. You will be able to find valuable information and legal advice on wills and trusts, as well as gaining peace of mind.”
