On Tuesday 3rd March 2015 Disability Action Wyre Forest undertook an access site visit to Clensmore Street Kidderminster.
Present on the visit were Mark Lawley Chairman, Beryl Bedford DAWF member & Wyre Forest District Council Councillor Mary Rayner.
Clensmore Street Kidderminster was a brown field site previously occupied by Georgian Carpets. The site now is a new partial built new housing development by Bellway Homes and Barratt Homes.
The visit started very positively looking at the new properties adjacent to the Bellway’s show home, unfortunately this wasn’t too last long!
The visit was soon to discover that many of the properties had stepped approaches failing building regulations Part M 6.1 and Equality Act 2010 making reasonable adjustments.
Mr Lawley said “I was horrified and very disappointed looking at a new development on a flat site! I could see no reason for the need of stepped approaches that were creating barriers!”
Disability Action Wyre Forest will discussing the findings at their meeting on March 12th before writing to Bellway Homes asking for a response to our findings
