THREE young Wyre Forest volunteers have secured paid apprenticeships with Kemp Hospice.

Former Kidderminster College students Katie Moloney, 22, Paul Simmonds, 22, both of Bewdley and Daniel Gittens, 20, of Kidderminster, have been selected to start a Team Leading apprenticeship with the charity.

The three volunteers started their level two apprenticeships in customer service in November 2011 at the college and have become employees as a result of dedicating their time and efforts to volunteering.

Lynne Jones, retail manager for Kemp, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the progress the apprentices have made.

“They are mature, confident and responsible. And since the apprentices have started working with us, we have attracted younger volunteers and customers.”

Kemp Hospice has also started to expand their retail operation and is looking to recruit two more apprentices from Kidderminster College next year.

Beth Newton, employer engagement co-ordinator at Kidderminster College, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Lynne, Katie, Paul and Daniel.

“I am delighted they have enjoyed the apprenticeships and it is fantastic that Kemp Hospice has recognised their potential and has contacted us to provide them with formal work based training.”
