Making a Cambodian Child's Dream Come True

By sponsoring a water well in Promkot Village in Cambodia through the UK Friends of the Cambodian Child's Dream Organisation, Kidderminster Soroptimists have made it possible for five families to share in clean water. This not only improves the health and living conditions of 38 people but enables the children to realise their dream of attending school.

Kidderminster Soroptimists Join Silent Vigil for Malala

At the recent Conference in Belfast, Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland, the global women’s organisation, condemned the shooting of Malala Yousafzai and two other school girls from the SWAT area of Pakistan by the Taliban because they wished to continue their education. Members confirmed the commitment of Soroptimism to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development goals particularly as they relate to the education of girls worldwide and supported the call to all Governments to press the Pakistan Government to bring the perpetrators to justice and to protect the rights of girls to access to full secondary education unmolested. Action taken by members of Kidderminster Club included signing the petition that Mr Gordon Brown, acting as United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, presented to the Pakistan Government. Also, two members, Stephanie Ainsley and Liz Broadfield joined other Soroptimists from around the Midlands Region in the silent candlelight vigil held outside the Pakistan Consulate in Birmingham on 10 November.
