Kidderminster Scouts’ Meeting the Challenges The Annual General Meeting of Kidderminster and District Scout Council took place at Rhydd Covert Scout Campsite on Saturday 12th June 2010.

Continuing the break with tradition, the meeting was held out of doors, with the weather once more being kind as in previous years.

The Chairman and the District Commissioner both spoke briefly about the success of Scouting locally, with particular emphasis on the events and activities enjoyed by the youngsters. Special mention was made of the recent International Camp in De Kluis in Belgium, which was attended by young people aged 8 – 18, which has sparked a keen interest in camping abroad, with the Cubs off to France on an adventure holiday next year.

Following the retirement of two Vice Presidents of Kidderminster Scouting, Mark Garnier MP and Ron and Hazel Lawrence were appointed to the roles. Chairman Julie Goodyear said ‘We’re delighted to welcome our new Vice Presidents and look forward to working with them in support of Scouting for local youngsters’. Chief Scouts Commendation awards were presented to Simon Burgess, Cub Scout Leader at the 4th Kidderminster (Wolverley), and Andrew Adams of the 14th Kidderminster (Birchen Coppice) Scout Group by the District Commissioner Dave Denton who congratulated them and all adults in scouting for their hard work and commitment. He added ‘Scouting in Kidderminster is an amazing success story – the adventures and challenges that we offer are drawing in youngsters in ever increasing numbers, especially in the older age groups’ The Meeting concluded with a BBQ, and guests were invited to have a look around Rhydd Covert, where a number of young people were camping and enjoying the many activities on offer (including watching the first England World Cup match out doors on a big screen!
