WYRE Forest’s Scout and Guide groups proudly took to the district’s packed streets to march in the annual St George’s Day parades.

The sun shone as about 1,000 Kidderminster members marched to and from New Road on Sunday, led by KD21, the Halesowen Scout Band and Kings Norton Marching Band, taking the salute at the town hall.

Scouts, Explorers and Young Leaders paraded to St Mary’s Church for a service also attended by mayor John Aston.

Mr Aston said: “The parade went very well. It was lovely to see the children and youth of the town come together and take an active part in the community.”

Guides, Brownies and Rainbows marched to Baxter Church, joining mayoress Madeline Craddock.

Kidderminster Girlguiding division commissioner, Mandy Brighton, said: “We had a fantastic service and a lot of people out in the streets supporting us.”

Beavers and Cubs held their service at St George’s Church where money was collected for charity Cords4Life.

In Stourport, members of Severn and Teme district Scouts and Guides marched from Memorial Park to the Civic Centre for a service on Sunday afternoon.

They returned to the park via High Street, Lombard Street and Bewdley Road taking the salute from deputy mayor Ken Henderson outside the police station.

He said: “It was a brilliant day, especially for the children and The Rev Linda Catlow put on a brilliant service. I was honoured to take the salute because it was something I had never done before.”

Earlier in the day, members paraded through Bewdley, from Severnside North to St Anne’s Church. Mayor John Latham took the salute at the Guildhall.

Marches in Stourport and Bewdley were both led by the group’s own Scouts and Guides band.

District commissioner Robin Dellbridge said: “Both events went well and it was good to see parents turned out as well as members of the public. [The youngsters] are proud to be Scouts and Guides and it is good to see them out in uniform.”
