SCOUT and Guide groups across Wyre Forest marched through the district’s towns as residents lined the streets during annual St George’s Day parades.

In Kidderminster about 1,000 participants marched to and from New Road on Sunday accompanied by Halesowen Scout Band and Kings Norton Marching Band.

Guides and Brownies attended a service at Baxter Church, Beavers and Cubs stopped at St George’s Church and Scouts, Explorers and Young Leaders marched to St Mary’s Church.

Kidderminster district commissioner Julie Goodyear said: “It was wonderful. I am proud to pay tribute to the young people and leaders for making it such a special day.

“I would like to thank Mayor Anne Hingley and other dignitaries for attending and to offer my personal thanks to the people of Kidderminster for turning out and their continued support and affection.”

On return, the salute was taken at Kidderminster Town Hall where Cookley Scout Group raised flags for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

In Stourport, Severn and Teme District Scouts and Guides marched from Memorial Park to the Civic Centre for a service. They continued through the High Street to the police station and back to Memorial Park.

District treasurer Geoff Dellbridge said: “There was a good turn out and a large number of proud parents who came to watch the parade.”

Scouts and Guides in Bewdley marched along Load Street across the bridge to Bewdley Rowing Club where the band assembled.

They continued to St Anne's Church where a guard of honour was formed for dignitaries from Bewdley Town Council. On their return, Mayor Jan Adams took the salute at the Guildhall.

Mrs Adams said: “I enjoyed it very much the weather was kind to us and it is nice to see various Scouts and Guide organisations marching.”
