On Saturday 15th September, Wolverley Scouts supported the postponed Wolverley Village Carnival. Bad weather in June led to the postponement so everyone involved was relieved that the sun shone for the occasion. Wolverley Scouts put on a display with a mock camp, complete with tents, dining shelter and an open fire for cooking. Young people and adults were invited to “sizzle a sausage” or melt a marshmallow over the fire and find out more about the group. Many cups of tea were given to thirsty visitors. Mike Davis, Assistant Scout Leader said “This is not a fund raising activity, the purpose is to raise the profile of Wolverley Scout Group in the village and to get the group involved in the local community and community events”.
Visitors to the camp included local MP, Mark Garnier who took the time to chat to the leaders and young people. Andy Horton, Scout Leader said “I’m proud of the way the scouts portrayed themselves and the group, they directly demonstrated the values and ethos of the scouting movement”.
The day was a great success with several young people expressing an interest in the group and a number of adults making enquiries about volunteering with the group. Ian Jolly, Group Scout Leader commented “Being a part of the community is vital to Scouting today, the members enjoyed the day and the group is actively looking for more community events and programs to support and be involved with.
