HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY – Astley and Dunley Village Hall was packed for the meeting on December 10. Derek Walker thanked the committee and everyone who had brought food for the American supper or raffle prizes.

WI – Audrey Mallory will be the new president. A report was given on the 90th anniversary service at Worcester Cathedral.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION – During the December meeting at the Black Boy Hotel, a vote of thanks was given to Keith Thompson for his efforts in fund-raising during the Christmas Lights Festival and for initiating the used battery container which is now in use in Bewdley. David Dixon, the branch Poppy Appeal organiser, was also thanked.

WI – On November 19, member Ann Jones organised the meeting. Doreen Norman entertained members with ‘Music and Me’. She told of how she became an opera singer interspersed with a number of songs from operas and variety, in English, Italian and French.

WI – University of the Third Age, Blakedown village and other WIs packed the Parish Rooms in anticipation of the WI Christmas Entertainment.

ALL SAINTS’ AND WRIBBENHALL TOGETHER – The project, at All Saints’ Church Wribbenhall, has now closed for the Christmas period following a get-together on December 8.

Mountaineering Club – The club held its Christmas meet at Clapham in the Yorkshire Dales and was rewarded with the largest attendance for several years. Several expeditions were undertaken over the weekend, including both Ingleborough and Whernside. The ascent of Ingleborough was enhanced by a visit to the entrance of the huge pothole at Gaping Gill and by several sightings of red squirrels. Other walks undertaken included parts of the Dales Way, and the Ingleton Waterfall Walk.

St Bartholomew’s Church – A Christmas Tree Festival with mulled wine, mince pies, a raffle and a gift stall in Church House. is being held from tomorrow to Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
