BEWDLEY Museum has had rave reviews on a popular tourist website.

The Load Street tourist attraction has been described as “a lovely place to visit” and a “little gem” by visitors on Tripadvisor.

The museum, set in a historic butchers shambles, also has an overall rating of four and a half stars out of five.

One comment said: “A great museum in the town centre, good informative displays, very interesting to learn about the history of the area. Lovely garden round the back and tea room in the summer.”

Another added: “This excellent attraction has served the people of Bewdley and its visitors very well for many years.

“It tells the story of the town from a number of angles – the merchants, the rivermen/ women, the foresters are all well represented. This is a wonderful place to spend an hour and it is well complemented by the gardens behind it.”

Alison Bakr, Wyre Forest District Council’s museum development officer, said: “It’s great to see such encouraging reviews of our museum.

“We work really hard to ensure guests enjoy themselves and we try to offer as many activities as possible.

We’ve had a really positive and successful year and hopefully we’ll get even more visitors through the door in 2013.”

Conservative district councillor Ian Hardiman, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: “This little museum is making a big impact in attracting tourism to our district. There are many activities for all the family to get involved and the young ones particularly love it.”
