The president welcomed members and thanked June Gordon for the pretty spring tulips.

Members were reminded of forthcoming events, including another Amble on March 25 and the skittles on the 28. The next lunch meeting, which are proving very popular, is to be held on April 14, at the Robin Hood, Drayton. There will also be a crochet class for beginners at Jan Cook’s home on March 31.

The Annie Harrison plate competition this year features ‘own recipe fruit scones’ – members are encouraged to bake.

The treasurer reported that finances are still healthy, especially as subs are now in. She mentioned in particular that the Christmas show is a great fund raiser, responsible this time for over £270 profit!

In the wider region there is to be a memorial lecture on ‘Nutrition for cancer patients’ at Worcester University on June 17, and Broome WI invite the members to a fashion show, by Debut of Hagley, to be held on March 19. There will also be a talk by the Kidderminster Group on ‘Songs from Broadway’ on May 8 – an enlivening evening is promised.

Ideas for trips out include the Pen Museum, Jewellery Museum and Assay Office, as well as gardens and cathedrals.

Members were asked to indicate their preferences.

The guest speaker was Mr Barber who related the history of Sugar, with particular reference to the British Sugar Corporation’s activities in Kidderminster.

Members then took on the challenge of getting their hands sticky by moulding animals from dough.
