A BEWDLEY woman has grown a sunflower almost as tall as her bungalow.
Pauline Jones, of Sabrina Drive, planted the Helianthus in July and it has now risen to a height of 14ft and is nearly level with her roof.
The 72-year-old, who moved to Bewdley two years ago, was challenged by her nephew to a sunflower growing contest and with the help of her husband Roy Jones, 79, achieved a resounding victory.
She said: “I am very proud of it – it has been a one-off.
“I never expected it to reach such a height but it just kept going and going.
“I am not a gardening expert and usually I have no luck with growing tomatoes or cucumbers, so I don’t know what the key to the success has been.
“All of my grandchildren love coming to see the sunflower and they are all really chuffed.
“It is just nerve-racking to look at it during a windy day as we keep worrying it is going to fall.”
