Roger Torode gave a fascinating talk on The Friendly Midland Red for our September lecture. He started as a conductor on these local buses and ended up as European Transport Manager for London Transport!

The next talk on October 28 is at 2.30pm in St George’s Hall, called Bewdley to Downing Street: the career of Stanley Baldwin, by John Chester. Non members are welcome.

Continuing the theme of our first President, there is an exhibition of work about Stanley Baldwin done by pupils from the High School with assistance and financial help from the Civic Society. This is in the Sawyard in Bewdley Museum and is well worth a visit.

In addition there are old photos of Bewdley on display in the cafe at St George’s Hall until 19th of this month to mark the Society’s 70th anniversary. It is remarkable to think that 120 people gathered together to form the Society in 1914 when we were still at war.
