RESIDENTS of Wyre Forest who would like to make a difference to the local community are being urged to become district councillors.

With all out elections to Wyre Forest District Council only six months away, now is the time to apply to go forward for selection.

On Tuesday December 9, between 12.30pm and 2.30pm, residents can drop in to Kidderminster Town Hall to find out what they could do to make a difference to people’s lives in Wyre Forest.

Ian Miller, returning officer, said: “If you are not already a councillor and are thinking of standing as a candidate, the event on December 9 will give you the opportunity to find out more about what is involved.

“We will be organising a further event in the new year for anyone who can’t manage to come along on December 9.”

The council is keen to encourage people from under-represented groups to get involved, including young people, people from ethnic communities, disabled people and women.

Councillors are elected to the local council to represent their local community, so to be eligible they must either live or work in the area they hope to represent.

A council spokeswoman said: “Becoming a councillor is both a rewarding and privileged form of public service.

“You will be in a position to make a difference to the quality of other people’s daily lives and prospects.”
