BELBROUGHTON’S post office could relocate less than 30 metres down the road and re-open with a brand new look and extended opening hours.

Proposals have been made for a new High Street branch to have a number of changes including a modern upgrade and Sunday opening times.

The branch would have products and services being offered from an open-plan till at the shop counter instead of from a separate screened counter.

Currently based at 24 High Street, the proposed move – of just 29 metres – would see the branch open at 29 - 31 High Street.

Should the move go ahead, it would open from 6am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 7am until 10pm on Sunday – an addition of 65 hours a week.

The post office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

Will Russell, regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Belbroughton and we are confident that this new modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the post office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The consultation will close on December 18 and submissions can be made by emailing comments@postoffice.co.uk, calling the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or textphone on 03457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 206208.
