ASTLEY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY:The transition between summer and winter has brought the most wonderful changes on all the trees around us as the pundits had promised.The leaves have been ablaze with fantastic colour and now falling to the ground. The harvest supper celebrations were October 15 and enjoyed a wonderful roast meal with choice of chicken, beef, lamb and pork for dinner with vegetables and delicious desserts provided from Phil and his team from Tenbury Wells. We also held a very successful raffle with over 60 great prizes. The society welcomed Matt Worley from the Swan in Stourport with his four friends Tony, Rob, Curly and Abby who accompanied with guitars, vocals, drums or keyboard playing rousing numbers from the fifties including rock and roll.There was a captive audience who willingly joined in with the music and singing.It was a great evening and brought back many happy memories from the fifties and sixties.
The speaker on November 16 was David Tideswell, "Garden birds in autumn and winter".
He is an expert ornithologist who is passionate about caring for his feather friends.He often speaks on BBC with Radio Stoke.
On December 14 there is a quiz with an American supper. On December 18 there is the 2017 Annual General Meeting and review of 2016.
