The National Federation Resolution on publicity and promotion of Organ Transplant Donation was explained to members by Margaret Cook, who will be theDelegate for Areley Kings and three other WIs at the Annual Meeting in Leeds on June 9.

In leading the general discussion Margaret outlined the background for WI Resolutions, as well as comprehensively covering , the present Organ Transplant Resolution.

Members voted in favour of the resolution.

On display during the evening were many impressive paintings by members of the Art Class, who meet under Margaret Shaddock’s guidance in the autumn and spring.

Also displayed were knitted garments made by the ‘Knit & Natter group who meet weekly in the Library.

Several of these items are to be donated to local charities.

Patsy Anderson, the president, reported on the success, both financially and socially, of Mollie Long’s ‘Curry Lunch’ held at Church House in April.

The proceeds have been sent to the Nandi Hills branch of the East African Women’s League to aid their work in local orphanages.

Their thanks were expressed.

Mollie also expressed thanks to WI members for providing puddings and raffle prizes.

Patsy Anderson, the Skittles Captain, also announced that Pam Sheward has again won the Janet Hjeltes Shield for gaining the highest points in the season’s skittle matches.

Areley Kings were runners up in the matches played within the Forest Group.

Over recent weeks, under Diana Hackett’s direction, a team of ‘water babies’ have been rehearsing the WI’s entertainment for the Village Hall Birthday Celebrations Concert.

Members were treated to a dress rehearsal which was greeted with much laughter and enthusiastic applause.

The evening concluded with a Quiz on the continuing theme of ‘water’ devised by Lin Edwards and won by Margaret Shaddock, Betty Barratt and Di Parkes.

The competition for the greatest number of articles in a Match Box was won by Pam Eves with 68 items. Ann Lakin was second and Bernie Downing third.

The next meeting will be held on June 9 at Areley Kings Village Hall at 7.30pm.

This is to be a surprise meeting when the interesting lives of two members will be revealed.
