A CLASSIC car event will help a Wyre Forest community commemorate its fallen war heroes.

Arley’s annual vintage car rally and car boot, which takes place on bank holiday Monday, August 25, will raise funds for the refurbishment of the village’s memorial hall.

The present hall was built to remember local men who lost their lives in both world wars but is now in need of a £300,000 upgrade.

A committee of residents has already raised half of this target and it is hoped the vintage car rally and boot sale will significantly boost their total.

Louvain Beer, chairman of the Arley Memorial Hall committee, said: “We would love to be able to finish this project soon as a fitting tribute to these men during the centenary of the First World War.”

The event, which will feature around 200 classic vehicles, will take place at the Upper Arley sports field at 10am and costs £1 to enter.

Selling at the boot sale costs £5 for cars and £10 for traders, with set-up starting at 9am.

Money raised will support the Arley Memorial Hall Redevelopment Fund, Midlands Air Ambulance and other village organisations.
