President Margaret Healing gave special thanks to the Astley  members who had participated in the Creative Activities ‘Best of British’ at the Annual Council Meeting at the Malvern Showgound.

Astley entries had included a Floral Arrangement ‘Seasons’ by Vicky Hyde,  a bakewell tart  by Suzanne Moule, an innovative cap created by Gwen Freeman, who had won second prize, a hand knitted cardigan submitted by Chris Booton, a photograph by Margaret Freeman and a jar of jam made by Lesley Smith.
Marjorie Whiting  reported from the Council Meeting that all the speakers had been excellent.

Margaret and Sylvia said that the Group meeting held recently hosted by  Heightinton WI at the Village Hall had gone well. Speaker for the evening was Edmund Hawan, from Ludlow who had demonstrated his skills as a  ‘Basket Weaver Craftsman’. Everyone had enjoyed the excellent refreshments.
Astley WI also won the Bursary for Denman College for £200. Members who are interested will be able to enter the draw.  Astley also won the Worcester Winners Draw of £5.
However, members had been saddened  later to hear that Chrissie Tunney had been involved in a car accident. The WI members all send her get well wishes.

Shirley Fieldhouse pointed out the ‘Singing for Pleasure’  photograph in the Worcestershire WI News featuring Chris Hodgkinson and Marjorie Whiting. 
Congatulations to  the Shrinkin' Violets, who have been asked to perform at  Lickhill WI and also  the party for old people at Astley before Christmas.
The WI Choir will be performing their special Tis Christmastide Carol Concert at Kidderminster Town Hall on December 7 with musical director Tim Morris and special guest soloist Paul Murdock.
Margaret thanked members on behalf of Di Crump for bringing items for the Christmas Shoe Boxes For Deprived Children Abroad.

Di has arranged to invite interested members to a Floral Art afternoon  at her home Greenacres  on Thursday, December 6 at 2pm.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December  5 at the Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm, for Christmas Celebrations.
