The Spring Show was a huge success. The cold weather had not deterred the stalwart Astley horticulturalists from putting on a blaze of spring colour.

Robin Saunders was pleased to report that 29 exhibitors had entered 172 entries. The village hall welcomed more than 90 visitors.

The Domestic Best in Show Rosette was awarded to Beryl Jackson for her coffee and walnut cake given a score of 20 out of 20 by the WI judge. Beryl was awarded the Best in Show Cup.

Derek Walker took the Hort. Best in Show Rosette, as well as the Class 10 Daffodil Cup.

Results – Floral Art, Class 23 (spring is busting out all over): 1 Di Crump, 2 Hazel Rogers, 3 Lin Hughes. Class 24 (narcissi with flowering shrubs, foliage & wood for a side table): 1 Di Crump, 2 Hazel Rogers, 3 Lin Hughes. Children under 11, Class 33: J Warr. Class 34: J Warr. Class 35: J Warr.

Astley School, willow (children in reception and Year 1), Class 33 (decorated egg): 1 L Kilgour, 2 B Collins, 3 J Bennett. Class 34 (spring flowers ): 1 A Dorrell, 2 A Hill, 3 L Kilgour.

Elm (children in years 2 and 3), Class 33 (decorated egg): 1 C Poligre, 2 H Badger, 3 S Holland. Class 34 (spring flowers): 1 T Woodward, 2 J Whitefoot, 3 H Cook.

Oak (children in years 4 , 5, 6), Class 33 (decorated egg): 1 L Woodward, 2 C Smart, 3 P Hunt. Class 34 (spring flowers): 1 J Gibbs, 2 D Bower, 3 P Hunt.
