Astley WI met on December 4 for the Christmas meeting.

Following the presentation of birthday posies, a notification was given for many of the events in 2014.

One of these will be a meeting in February for those interested in the NFWI centenary choir competition: Singing for Joy.

At the spring council meeting in March Sheila Dibner will speak.

There was news of winners and losers this month.

The skittles team lost their match against Areley Kings WI but had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Two Astley members were lucky enough to win prizes in the Worcestershire Federation’s 95th anniversary draw in support of the Worcester Breast Care Unit.

Once the business had been dealt with, The Shrinkin’ Violets entertained members and their guests with a selection of music, songs, poetry and a humorous sketch after which everyone partook of a finger buffet.

The next meeting will be on January 8 at 7.30pm when Robert Barber will be giving a talk on the history of sugar.
