Following the presentations of birthday posies, there was a summary of the varied and stimulating events lined up around the county for the next few months.

These include a class on gardening tips and propagation, a Murder Mystery Evening, a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum and a visit to Chatsworth to name but a few.

There is Astley WI’s annual Summer Social (this year entitled ‘Hundredth High Jinks’ in honour of WI’s Centenary year) to look forward to on July 31.

Reports were given on two recent activities: the lunch at which Michael Portillo was guest speaker was a memorable occasion and enjoyed by all and the Group Meeting at Rock where Max Keen, dressed as a Cavalier, spoke about the Civil War.

Members are collecting their miles walked toward the Moon Mission and already, over 100 have been totalled in a few short weeks.

A few members went to see an excellent amateur production of West Side Story recently in Worcester and a visit to see Sunset Boulevard in October is being planned.

The resolution entitled ‘Failing to Care - Assessment of Need in Long-term Care’ was presented, discussed and supported.

The next meeting will be on June 3 at 7.30pm when Mr Collis will giving a talk entitled Swinging Ladies, which will be about inn signs.
