POLICE say they believe it was a man in his 50s from Birmingham who died in yesterday’s incident near Belbroughton which saw a burning car wind up in a field.

Officers from West Mercia Police are continuing to investigate the incident which happened on the B4188 Hackmans Gate Lane between Belbroughton and Blakedown at around 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday March 14).

A Rover 75 was reported to have left the road on fire before careering through a hedge and a fence, finally coming to rest 30 yards into a field.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the deceased is believed to be the registered owner of the vehicle - a man in his 50s from Birmingham - but formal identification may take several weeks.

A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow (Friday) and an inquest will be opened in due course.
