A FORMER Bewdley stalwart who was awarded an MBE for her public service has died aged 88.

Dizzie Moore, who lived in Wyre Forest for thirty years and was twice mayor of Bewdley, died at her home in Haslemere in Surrey yesterday morning.

In a statement her family said: "Dizzie passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 20 surrounded by her family after a short illness.

"Her commitment to helping others has resulted in an outpouring of love and support that has totally overwhelmed us.

"She touched many people and her life of public service for which she was awarded the MBE, dedication to her family and friends and service to the community is something we aim to celebrate."

Mrs Moore was a tireless community worker and was a prominent member of the Bewdley Festival committee as well as being chairman of the Bewdley women's section of the Royal British Legion and a member of the town's Rotary Club.

She was awarded her MBE in 2002 for her services to Bewdley and Haslemere, where she became the town's first lady rotarian and volunteered with CARE, a driving service for the elderly, and the Talking Newspaper for the blind.

Mrs Moore, who has three children and six grandchildren, served with the Royal Navy in the Far East during the Second World War.

Her family will be holding a private cremation in Haslemere and a public memorial service.

A memorial service is also being organised in Bewdley, at a date yet to be arranged.
