A BEWDLEY farm is opening its gates to the public this Sunday (June 8), where it will offer free guided walks around the farm, as well as the chance to meet the animals.

Uncllys Farm, in Tanners Hill, will have many activities going on throughout the day, including an orienteering map, wool spinning demonstrations for children and talks on woodwork and birdsong.

Sally Pendergast, farm manager, said: “It's great to get the chance to open our doors to the public and answer all their questions.

“We have opened our farm for the last few years and it's always been a very successful event for us, with over 100 people turning up last year.

“Our work is mainly based around conservation and we have a great group of volunteers that help us in all our work. So as well as explaining what we do and the reasons behind it, it's a chance to try and recruit some extra helpers.”

There will also be the opportunity for visitors to feed the chickens, collect their eggs and pet the pigs, cows and rams.

The first guided walk starts at 10.30am and runs until 12.30pm followed by a second walk from 2pm to 4pm, with visitors being advised to bring walking boots or wellies.

Jo Grant, communications assistant for Wyre Community Land Trust, said: “This is for everyone, young and old, to discover firsthand what it means to be a farmer.

“You can take time to listen to the birds, soak up the scenery, experience the smells of the farmyard and really get in touch with the land that feeds us.

“It is a great opportunity to come and discover the story behind your food and get a fascinating insight into aspects of the countryside that you wouldn’t normally see.”

Refreshments such as tea and cake will be available, as well as the chance to taste some of the farms own reared beef from their pedigree Dexter cattle.

The farm is opening its gates as part of Open Farm Sunday, a project, running since 2006, which has seen hundreds of farmers across the UK opening up their farms for one Sunday each year.
