KIDDERMINSTER College student Jodie Davies is the kind of girl it is handy to have around when the chips are down.

Ms Davies, who volunteers for the Wyre Forest area Red Cross as well as studying for a Level 3 diploma in complementary therapies, has won a Be the change award for her good citizenship.

The 18-year-old, of Bewdley, who is learning how to carry out treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy and body massage, received her award from the ContinU Trust during a Young Citizens Celebration at Kidderminster Town Hall.

ContinU Trust is a charitable company set up by the seven secondary schools in Wyre Forest and Hagley, together with Kidderminster College.

The teenager is a Red Cross first aider at shows, fetes and festivals and helped to treat casualties who had mishaps at the Chelsea Flower Show this year.

Last month she also represented Wyre Forest Red Cross at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, hosted by Prince Charles, to commemorate the organisation’s 150th anniversary.

Jackie Bould, Kidderminster College tutor, said: “We at the college are very proud that she has received this award and hope it will boost her job prospects even further.”
