A NEW woodwind and brass band has formed in Bewdley.

The Bewdley Concert Band, formed at the beginning of October, already has 28 members, of all ages and abilities.

Creator of the band, Valerie Blount, said: “A huge part of the success is due to the community spirit within the band. All the players want to make music in a friendly, fun and supportive way.”

She added: “Everyone is very supportive of each other and we already have a fantastic team spirit. We have a wide range of playing ability, the more able support the younger and less experienced players.”

Mrs Blount is music co-ordinator at Bewdley Primary School where the band is based. She explained the school provide children with a free instrument and tuition at a brass club and some are part of the Bewdley Primary School Band, which was also formed by Mrs Blount.

The concert band’s musical director, Ian Worton, said: “Bewdley Concert Band has made huge strides in only a few weeks.”

The band welcomes new members and is particularly looking for tuba and trombone players.
