The Drama Group reflected on the very special year of 2012 with the Olympic Games and  the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in their annual production entitled Happy and Glorious.

It began with June and Doreen as avid royal watchers, setting up their ‘overnight camp’ on the pavement awaiting the arrival of queen at the jubilee celebrations.
This was followed by a Shirley Bassey tribute, Diane and Catherine looking glamorous, Simon looking slightly the worse for wear and his mind obviously on the James Bond figure played by Jonathan.
Moving swiftly on to an Olympic event – a boxing match between an ultra lightweight, Ken, and a super heavyweight, Paul, with their seconds Mary and Kath far too absorbed in their reading matter – 50 Shades of Grey and 100 Shades of Black  – to be interested in the welfare of the boxers!
Back came June and Doreen glamorously dressed for the Royal Garden Party, their hats provided by Catherine Clark.

Do you remember the river pageant and those poor singers soaked to the skin? Blakedown provided their own version with Diane encouraging a rousing chorus of Land of Hope and Glory.
The audience were then reduced to hysterical laughter when the synchronised swimmers – the two Daves, Jonathan, Simon, Ken and Paul wearing black swimming costumes, hats and blue sequin flashes on their faces – ‘swam’ across the stage.

The mood changed as the queen sat at her desk preparing to greet Mr Bond. She thanked everyone for a wonderful year and distributed gold medals to her Olympians.
The cast has this year produced their own calendar. They had each sponsored a month and the photographs depicted a scene from the production.
Cancer Research had permited their logo to be added and the money raised from the sales will be donated to the charity.
Members of Blakedown WI are justified in being extremely proud of their Drama Group and their non-WI friends who give of their time and talent. Particular thanks to Amy, Elaine and Ann again this year for their production and directing skills.
