Members celebrated the WI’s 93rd birthday with a supper and singing.
After the president thanked Kath Lahive for her pretty bronze-themed flower arrangement, the business element of the meeting was kept to a minimum and very quickly the committee served a savoury supper.
Tony Pugh had kindly volunteered to serve the wine. This was followed by a selection of fantastic sweets.
CAST (Blakedown’s Village choir) entertained members and proved what a lively and talented group they are.
The special birthday cake, made by Wendy at ‘Crumbs’, was cut by Joan Peck.
A quiz, devised by Jan, and an Irish auction, planned by Christine, followed before the evening ended with the song These are a few of my favourite things ... with apologies to Julie Andrews for the alternative words! A vote of thanks to the committee was given by Joyce Pratt on behalf of the members.
