PUPILS at Blakedown CE Primary School have proved it is easy being green by achieving another award for their environmentally-friendly efforts.

Eco-Schools, an international awards programme run by Keep Britain Tidy, has recognised the school’s sustainability for the third time and awarded the pupils a green flag.

Rachel Harrison, eco co-ordinator, said: “Eco-schools likes to see it driven from the children. We have been planting seeds, vegetables, using rain water, cutting down on our energy by turning off lights and computers and we have a fair trade café and stalls.”

The school has also tried to build the ideas into its curriculum to teach the pupils about their impact on the environment.

The green flag is the top award from Eco-schools, which can be applied for every two years.

The award was the school’s third achievement this year along with being judged a “good school” in its recent Ofsted inspection and “outstanding” in all areas by the Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools.
