CLEOBURY Mortimer-based Hobsons Brewery has started its 20th anniversary year on a high after winning four awards in the CAMRA West Midlands Beer of the Year competition.

It is company’s 20th anniversary year and it has launched the celebrations with its original brew, Hobsons Best Bitter, taking the title of Champion Bitter in the West Midlands 20 years on from when it was first brewed.

Hobsons’ second product in its history of brewing, Hobsons Mild, took the bronze medal in the Mild category and Hobsons Old Henry took double honours, picking up the silver medal in the Strong Bitter category and bronze in the Real Ale in a Bottle category.

“This is a very special award for us, not only has our original beer been crowned a regional champion - we’re also very proud that this is a locally-produced pint, with the hops grown in Worcestershire and Herefordshire and the barley harvested within 30 miles of the brewery - all part of our ethos to source locally and set up a network of local growers,” said owner Nick Davis.

Hobsons is planning a programme of activities and events to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
