CHADDESLEY CORBETT is gearing up for a rousing evening of "Music in the Meadow" - with concert-goers invited to take their own picnic.

The event, featuring an eclectic mix of singers, songwriters and bands, will be held at Brockencote Hall, Chaddesley Corbett, on Friday, September 19.

It is organised by Newsquest, owner of The Shuttle, and tickets cost £19.50 each if they are pre-booked.

Organiser Carol Hinett said: "We have a great line-up of singers, songwriters, bands and genres - something for everyone."

Among the acts will be Welsh singer and songwriter Deborah Rose, whose voice has been described by folk legend Judy Collins as "one of the finest I've ever heard".

Remi Harris, hailed as "one of the finest gipsy jazz guitarists in the country" will also be on stage, as will pianist and singer Sara Colman, who performs her own interpretation of classic and original songs.

Wooden Horse Country Blues, who supported Joan Armatrading on her 2014 UK tour, will play their trademark country blues and rattling slide numbers.

Gerry Colvin, co-founder of the 1980s "skiffle-cowpunk indie" outfit Terry & Gerry, will also make an appearance.

The band was a favourite of the legendary DJ John Peel and featured on shows including The Tube and The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Since 1995, Gerry has worked with Nick Quarmby in the five-piece folk band Colvinquarmby and he has completed a solo jazz album.
