A CLEOBURY Mortimer brewing company is going back to the future in partenership with a charity.

Members of Severn Hospice Crafters have recycled fabrics and clothes to create medieval costumes for Hobsons Brewery, which is attending Ludlow’s medieval Christmas fair.

Hobsons is providing the main beer tent at the fair, taking place on Saturday and Sunday in the grounds of Ludlow Castle and organisers set rules that all stall holders should be in authentic period dress.

Hobsons sought the help of the hospice crafters to transform its staff and bar to a medieval ale house.

Severn Hospice Crafters was set up two years ago and meets twice a week. Members recycle fabrics donated to the charity into saleable items such as cushion covers, bunting and throws.

Since the group was formed its has raised over £3,000 for the hospice, based in Shrewsbury.

Kate Pearce of Hobsons Brewery said: “It has been great fun to have the Severn Hospice Crafters on board to create our medieval costumes - their enthusiasm and creativity has been brilliant.

“It has also been a great community business partnership, involving a local business investing in the skills of a local charity.”

Gayna Woodland, manager of Severn Hospice’s Cleobury Mortimer shop and a member of the crafters, said: “We were delighted to be asked to make Hobsons costumes for the medieval Christmas fair - it has been tremendous fun.

“The craft group has always been well supported by the people of Cleobury Mortimer and local businesses, who donate lots of items for us to use.”
