A CLEOBURY Mortimer resident has taken a photograph of the town from an unusual location - thanks to a drone.

Neil Vanes was able to snap an image from 130ft in the air on the west side of Cleobury Mortimer looking toward the town in the centre and showing Abberley Hills to the right and Clent Hills to the left.

To get the picture Mr Vanes used a homemade four-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Quadcopter, which he fitted with a small high definition video and stills camera.

The 38-year-old said: “I've had an interest in general photography for a while and became fascinated by other people’s aerial images and videos taken by drones.

“I started building and experimenting with my own at the end of last year, using parts sourced from various radio-controlled model suppliers and using online guides, forums and lots of trial and error.

“It’s purely a hobby currently but I'd really like to turn it into a commercially viable business for aerial photography and video and low-altitude surveying sometime in the near future.”
