A BREWERY in Cleobury Mortimer hosted its inaugural Stir Up Sunday event recently with the aim of bringing families together to make a Christmas pudding before advent.

The Christmas pudding extravaganza was the brainchild of Hobsons Brewery’s new recruit Reuben Crouch and held at its tasting room in Tenbury Road.

With all the ingredients provided, Hobsons invited local families to make a giant Christmas pudding and all visitors needing to bring to enter was an apron and wooden spoon.

Reuben said: “We really value our local community and it was lovely to see so many families joining in and having fun.

“In some cases we had three generations from the same family helping to prepare the puds.

“It was a really lovely atmosphere and definitely something we’ll repeat again next year.”

The event proved so popular, with 52 adults and 17 children turning up to take part, a second session had to be organised to cope with the demand.

All the cooks got involved in zesting fruit, crumbing bread, cracking eggs, weighing ingredients and stirring the pudding.

A special ingredient from the brewery was added to the recipe - Hobsons Postman's Knock, a rich ruby porter to add a depth of flavour to the dessert.

At the end of the event, the cooks took home a portion of the Christmas pudding mixture to steam at home in special pudding bowls.
