Residents rescued from flood-hit homes in Cleobury Mortimer
1:30pm Saturday 14th July 2012 in Cleobury
By William Tomaney
ABOUT a dozen people in and around Cleobury Mortimer were evacuated from their homes this morning because of flooding.
Floodwater reached up to three feet and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to several addresses after about 5am following a night of heavy rainfall.
The worst affected area was Neen Sollars with a number of people in static mobile homes also evacuated in the Ditton Mill area.
A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said one 81-year-old woman was trapped in her home in Cleobury and taken to safety.
“We assisted a number of people from their homes in various depths,” he added. “Most were not in any particular danger but we tried to help those who were most vulnerable.
“It is very distressing when you are faced with flood waters in your home. In our experience some may not be able to return home for a couple of weeks.”
