A REVELLER headbutted another man in an unprovoked attack on a night out, a jury has ruled.

Sean Tristram, 44, of Cookley, was found guilty yesterday of assault causing actual bodily harm at Worcester Crown Court in a unanimous verdict.

The trial heard how Tristram, of Gaymore Road, Cookley, had been on a night out in Lloyds Bar One in Broad Street, Worcester, on October 27 last year when he ran into victim Nicholas Jolly.

Tristram had been standing near the gaming machines in the bar when Mr Jolly, who told the court he had simply been on his way outside, approached him.

Tristram began to look angry, the trial was told, before attacking Mr Jolly in what prosecutor Stuart Clarkson described as "loutish, aggressive behaviour all too typical in a pub late at night".

Mr Jolly was left with cuts and bruises in the attack, as well as a broken denture plate.

Tristram argued he had only acted in self-defence, saying he believed Mr Jolly was about to hit him with a pint glass so headbutted him first.

He also claimed Mr Jolly had threatened to kill him as he got up from the floor, which explained why he punched him two or three more times, preventing him from getting to his feet.

The jury rejected the claims and returned a guilty verdict less than two hours after retiring to consider the evidence.

Tristram was released on conditional bail while a pre-sentence report is prepared and will return to court to be sentenced on November 6.
